You arrived in my darkest days, when the starry sky was nothing more than a dark cloak covering my world.
You had an unparalleled glow. You could illuminate my entire world. You made me feel seen like no other light had made me feel before. You offered me a warmth that became my safest place, my piece of light amidst the dark.
To your light, I soon wanted to get close; I wanted to be by your side, and I wanted to shine with that same intensity. It was then that I noticed for the first time, that behind that glow there was fire.
Even so, I wanted to get closer. Even though every time I did, your flames left a new wound on me, wounds that I knew I might never be able to heal, my heart wanted to give itself to you. It wanted to reach that light, for surely it would make it shine like it had never imagined.
I wish I could have stayed, but with each step, your flames wouldn’t stop hurting me, and you never let my heart come closer to you. I wish I had been enough for you to decide to extinguish your flames.
I keep seeing your light from afar, so beautiful and warm that I still want to get close; but now I know my desire is not enough, as it is you who must want it just as much.
